There has been more change in how we get around in the past five years than in the prior 25, with ride sharing, electric and hybrid vehicles, expansion of biking and mass transit. Starting this Sunday, KPCC will be celebrating and exploring these changes through a four-part special called The Ride.
In keeping with our mission to engage our audiences with an ongoing dialogue and exploration of issues and culture in our region, The Ride will explore a defining characteristic of Southern California and America - mobility - and it premieres this Sunday, May 8th at 10 am on 89.3 FM KPCC.
Co-hosted by motor journalist Susan Carpenter (LA Times, OC Register), who brings her decades of expertise and unique sensibility to the conversation, and Alonzo Bodden, seasoned stand-up comedian and gear-and-motor super fan, The Ride will report on our search for the balance between our love affair with moving and the social and environmental impact of our wanderlust.
The Ride is all about personal mobility. If it moves, if you can ride in it, or on it, we are talking about it. From radical ideas, like designing cities for people rather than cars, to exploring how our identities got so entwined with our mode of transportation and the pure joy of getting on something and going fast, The Ride takes you there in style. Come along for a ride on a custom motorbike with actor Keanu Reeves, explore our relationship with personal space on public transit, and meet a free car-sharing service.
Tune in this Sunday morning and let us know what you think!
