Forecasters say Southern California will see potentially damaging Santa Ana winds Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued both a red flag and a high wind warning.

The combination of low humidity, rapid gusts and warm temperatures puts the Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains and the Santa Clarita Valley at risk for wildfires. That's common for this time of year.

"We're expecting wind gusts between 60 and 70 miles per hour in the mountains," said Curt Kaplan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "In L.A., you won't get the strong winds out there, but basically over near Malibu and the northern part of L.A. County will see the strongest winds."

He says high winds also have the potential to knock down power lines and trees.

Wind conditions are expected to die down on Monday evening, and temperatures should drop by mid-week.
